There are many web sites that provide advice on how to find a church home.
Many of them focus primarily on the feelings and impressions you have when
visiting a church. Was the parking convenient? Did the greeter smile and make
you feel welcomed? Was the atmosphere bright and cheery? Did they play music
you like? Did the pastor tell jokes? Although these are all valid concerns when
evaluating a church, the single most important question is surprisingly absent
from most of these sites. What is God's will in this matter? Where does He want
you to attend?
God has a plan for you and your family. He knows your spiritual needs and
knows which church will best be able to help you grow in Him. He has gifted
you and knows where these gifts and the unique person you are will best fit the
needs of a church. If you seek His will, not only will you be blessed, but so
will the church that receives you.
In John 4:34 Jesus said,
“My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from
finishing his work.” If we examine the life of Jesus, we will see that He
consistently aligned His will with the will of the Father. Based on Jesus' example
should we make a decision about a church home without seeking the Father's will?
